A five month old baby was fatally shot to death while she was in the rear of a car in a neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side, The Associated Press reports.
The little
girl identified as Cecilia Thomas was struck in the head Friday evening when
shots were fired from another vehicle in the South Shore neighborhood, police
and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office say, according to The Associated
Press.
The victim
later died in a hospital. Another victim a 41-year-old man who was in another
vehicle at the violence was reportedly in good condition. He suffered a gunshot
near his eye, Chicago police said.
No suspect
has been arrested or identified and it is not clear what led to the shooting.
Spokeswomen
for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said the 5-month old baby would
have turned 6-months in four days.

The Associated Press, as of June 19, the Chicago Police Department had recorded
282 homicides this year as against the 316 recorded during the same period in
2021. Chicago continues to remain one of the most violent city in the US
although other cities like Los Angeles and New York continue to experience
violence..
