British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has vowed not to undergo psychological transformation as he lives with the reality of a string of defeats at the polls. Speaking with BBC’s Radio 4’s Today, Mr Johnson said there will be no ‘psychological transformation” from him.
Boris
Johnson said a "psychological transformation" in his character is
"not going to happen" after Tory by-election defeats led to calls for
change, according to the BBC.
The BBC
reported that the Prime Minister was asked to respond to Tory party chairman
Oliver Dowden who said it could not be “business as usual” as he quit.
Speaking
with the BBC Johnson said he “humbly and sincerely” accepts the criticism he is
facing but added on Radio 4’s Today programme that he had to distinguish
between "criticism that matters and what doesn't".
Mr Johnson
has been struggling to defend himself after being a guest at a pandemic era
party at 10 Downing Street effectively breaking his own COVID-19 lockdown rules.
He has
denied on multiple occasions that he was not aware a party at his official
residence constituted a violation of COVID lockdown rules. Johnson has faced
criticism for the actions and has faced several calls for him to resign but has
so far refused saying he could not resign in the middle of economic challenges
like soaring inflation, the war in Ukraine and other domestic issues.
He won a
vote of confidence at Westminster after a number of MPs subjected him to the
vote. On Friday he was greeted by series of by-election defeats in Wakefield
and Tiverton and Honiton.
