U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) have seized over $600,000 worth of cocaine hidden within the tires of a “juice” truck attempting to enter the country, Newsweek reports.
A press
release from Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said the incident occurred on
July 7, at the World Trade Bridge, which is located along the U.S.-Mexico
border in Laredo, Texas, the outlet reported.
CBP said
officers stationed at the World Trade Bridge encountered a “1997 Freightliner
trailer’ that was said to be carrying a shipment of “juice,” according to
Newsweek.
A
"juice" truck was found to be carrying over $600,000 worth of cocaine
near the World Trade Bridge along the U.S.-Mexico border, according to Customs
and Border Protection.
Newsweek
reported that the truck was referred for a secondary inspection prior to being
approved entry into the U.S. which included the use of “a canine and non-intrusive
inspection system examination,” the outlet quoted CBP.
CPB officers
discovered 38 packages that were found hidden within the truck’s tires
containing about 87 pounds of alleged cocaine, with an “estimated street value
of $671, 160,” according to CBP.
"Our
CBP officers' knowledge of concealment methods and technology played a key role
in the discovery of these illicit narcotics," Laredo Port of Entry Director Alberto
Flores said in a press statement, according to Newsweek.
"We
remain committed to ensuring our cargo system remains secure while facilitating
lawful commerce."
The alleged
narcotics and tractor were seized following the discovery.
