Ukrainian authorities have acknowledged that U.S. made HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems) rockets is a game-changer in its conflict with Russia mostly in the east of the country.
Russian Occupation
Russian
forces who have occupied several areas in Eastern Ukraine have been attacking
the region with rockets promptly withdrawals by Ukrainian forces on a number of
fronts.
US announces $400 million military aid package
The HIMARS is
part of a $400 million military aid package announced by the Biden administration
to the country. Ukraine has received eight of such equipment and will be
receiving four more, according to The Washington Times.
Ukrainian Defense Minister
In a tweet Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov said the “HIMARS have already made a HUUUGE difference on the battlefield.”
“More of
them as well as 🇺🇸 ammo & equipment will increase our strength and help to demilitarize
the terrorist state,” he wrote.
“I highly
appreciate the efforts of the @POTUS.”
HIMARS destroys Russian ammunition depots
The weapons supplied by the U.S. especially
the HIMARS have been used in a campaign to take out Russia’s key military structures
and has also destroyed key ammunition depots. The Washington quoted the Kyiv
Independent newspaper as saying that about 20 ammunition depots have been hit
or completely destroyed in the disputed Donbas region and other Russian
occupied areas in Ukraine.
“It is an
almost everyday occurrence,” the newspaper reported. “Russia’s ammunition depots
blow up, with large fires erupting as tons of ordnance detonate for hours. Some
of these incidents cause giant blasts with a radius of hundreds of meters.”
