Award-winning actress Anne Heche is currently on life support in coma and is “not expected” to survive after a fiery car crash where she sustained serious brain injury, according to a statement released Thursday night on behalf of her family and friends.

The statement said Heche is on life support as doctors determine if her organs are viable for donation, Washington Examiner quoted the statement.

What is Heche's state in hospital?

Heche was hospitalized at the Grossman Burn Center at West Hills hospital north of Los Angeles after her accident in the city last week. The actress suffered a “severe anoxic brain injury” caused by a sustained lack of oxygen to the brain, according to the statement, The Associated Press reported.

“She is not expected to survive,” the statement said, according to The Associated Press. “It has long been her choice to donate her organs and she is being kept on life support to determine if any are viable.”

Was Heche on drugs at time of car crash?

53-year-old Heche crashed her car into a home in Mar Vista, California, on August 5, according to Washington Examiner. Officials are investigating the crash as a felony vehicular accident after her blood tests showed signs that she was impaired, Washington Examiner reported.

On that fateful morning after Heche’s car smashed into the house, a fire erupted with the car still embedded inside the home.

Police said earlier Thursday they were investigating Heche for driving under the influence. When detectives with a search warrant searched took a sample of her blood, they found narcotics in her system, LAPD spokesperson Officer Jeff Lee said, according to The Associated Press.

“Anne had a huge heart and touched everyone she met with her generous spirit. More than her extraordinary talent, she saw spreading kindness and joy as her life’s work — especially moving the needle for acceptance of who you love,” Thursday’s statement said, according to The Associated Press. “She will be remembered for her courageous honesty and dearly missed for her light.”

Heche involved in similar hit and run crashes

Heche was allegedly involved in at least two separate hit and run crashes in her Mini Cooper on Friday before she wrecked into a home causing a fire, according to TMZ.

A woman in the home where she crashed her car sustained minor injuries and was treated at a hospital.

Surveillance footage purportedly showed her car traveling at a high rate of speed through a residential area before the fiery crash.

Heche is from Ohio and has featured in a number of films including Johnny Depp in “Donnie Brasco” and Harrison Ford in “Six Days, Seven Nights”. From 1987 to 1991, Heche featured on the NBC soap opera “Another World” and won a Daytime Emmy Award during the early 1990s, The Associated Press reported.
