A man who crashed a vehicle into U.S. Capitol barricade, fired a number of shots sporadically into the air before turning the gun and shooting himself, Capitol Police say.
The troubled
incident took place early Sunday morning, but no one was hurt, Washington
Examiner cited the force statement. The crash was located between the U.S.
Capitol Building and the Supreme Court in Washington D.C., according to
Washington Examiner.
"Just
after 4:00 a.m., a man drove his car into the vehicle barricade at East Capitol
Street and Second Street," Capitol Police said, Washington Examiner
reported.
"While
the man was getting out of the car, it became engulfed in flames. The man then
fired several shots into the air along East Capitol Street," Capitol
Police added. "When our officers heard the sound of gunfire, they
immediately responded and were approaching the man when he shot himself. Nobody
else was hurt."
His motives are
unclear at this time.
"At
this time, it does not appear the man was targeting any Members of Congress,
who are on recess, and it does not appear officers fired their weapons,"
Capitol Police said.
