Three people were injured following a shooting incident in Six Flags amusement part north of Chicago. Officers responded about 7:50 p.m. Sunday after 911 calls reporting shots fired at Six Flags Great America, about 45 miles (72 kilometers) north of Chicago, The Associated Press quoted Gurnee Police Department as saying.
“The
shooting ... was not a random act, and appeared to be a targeted incident that
occurred outside the park,” police said in a statement posted to Facebook,
according to The Associated Press.
Park
officials closed the park early following the shooting that sent fun lovers
fleeing in different directions.
Police said
in an initial investigation that a white sedan entered the parking lot and
drove toward the park’s front entrance. Some persons got out of the car and
shot at another person in the parking lot and drove away, police said,
according to The Associated Press.
Some of
those injured in the incident includes a 17-year-old boy from Aurora, Illinois
who suffered a thigh wound and another 19-year-old woman from Appleton,
Wisconsin, who had a leg wound, according to the police. A third person
suffered a shoulder injury.
Six Flags
Great America spokeswoman Rachl Kendziora said the park closed early Sunday
evening as its security and Gurnee officers responded to the shooting.
Kendziora
said the park reopened Monday moring.
Gurnee is in
Lake County, about 5 miles south of the Wisconsin border.
