Former President Donald Trump Friday dismissed President Joe Biden’s Thursday speech that the former president and his MAGA Republicans “represent extremism that threatens America,” labeling the president as suffering from dementia and being insane.
“Someone
should explain to Joe Biden, slowly but passionately, that MAGA means, as
powerfully as mere words can get, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! If he doesn’t want
to Make America Great Again, which through words, action, and thought, he
doesn’t, then he certainly should not be representing the United States of
America!” Mr. Trump wrote on Truth Social, The Washington Times reports.
During a
prime-time speech Thursday at the National Historical Park in downtown
Philadelphia, where the U.S. Constitution was crafted in 1787, Biden railed in
bitter terms against the Republican Party especially those who are in the
circle of Trump’s Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement in a speech described
by White House officials as “battle for the soul of the nation”.
Biden
accused what he called “MAGA forces” of seeking to move the United States “backwards”
to an era never seen before with fewer civil rights.
During his
speech, Mr. Biden accused so-called “MAGA Republicans” of refusing to recognize
free and fair elections, talking about violence in response to political
policies they don’t like and working to thwart “the will of the people.”
“I will not let the will of the American
people be overturned by wild conspiracy theories and baseless, evidence-free
claims of fraud. I will not stand by and watch elections in this country stolen
by people who simply refuse to accept that they lost,” Mr. Biden lashed at
supporters of Trump who refused to accept the results of the 2020 elections
after their principal lost the election, according to The Washington Times.
Trump
accused the president of threatening to use “military force”, saying it he is “insane”.
“If you look
at the words and meaning of the awkward and angry Biden speech tonight, he
threatened America, including with the possible use of military force,” Mr.
Trump wrote. “He must be insane, or suffering from late-stage dementia!”
Mr. Trump is
currently under federal investigation for mishandling classified records after
he removed “top secret” and other classified documents from the White House to
his Palm Beach residence after his presidency.
"This
is where we set in motion the most extraordinary experiment of self-government,
the world has ever known,” the president said.
Mr. Biden
who called the country’s democracy and equality, “the rock upon which this
nation is built” lamented that it was now “under assault” by MAGA forces.
Mr. Biden
made allusions to the events in the country without directly mentioning the
recent removal of “top secret” and other highly classified materials from the
White House by Trump to his Florida Mar-a-Lago residence uncovered by the FBI
during a raid on the Palm Beach home of the former president.
"Donald
Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very
foundations of our republic”.
"But
there's no question that the Republican Party today is dominated, driven and
intimidated by Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans. And that is a threat to
this country. These are hard things”.
"MAGA
Republicans do not respect the Constitution, do not believe in the rule of law.
They did not recognize the will of the people and refuse to accept the results
of a free election,” Mr. Biden said.
