Senate Republican candidate Joe O’Dea has announced that he will “campaign against” former President Donald Trump as the Midterms approaches.

O’Dea who is challenging Democratic candidate Sen. Michael Bennet from Colorado in November made this known in an interview with CNN anchor Dana Bash on Sunday, according to the Washington Examiner.

The Republican described the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot as a “black eye” for the country and called for accountability so that the nation could move forward.

"I don't think Donald Trump should run again," O'Dea added. " I'm going to actively campaign against Donald Trump and make sure that we have got four or five really great Republicans right now."

O’Dea appears to favor other potential candidates for the GOP such as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis who is yet to declare his presidential bid and others such as Nikki Haley and Tim Scott. .

"Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Tim Scott, they could run and serve for eight years. I'm going to do my job as a U.S. senator to make sure that they have good campaigns in the primary here, so we have a good selection of candidates for 2024," O'Dea said.

Mr. O’Dea unlike most Republicans has openly told the former president that he lost the 2020 presidential elections to President Joe Biden. The race is expected to be tightly contested.
