The police have arrested the son of a Queens’ homeowner for concealing the decomposing corpse of a woman found in the basement of a Laurelton house. The suspect, Josh Legendre, 38 was arrested Saturday after the woman’s rotting remains were found stuffed into a plastic bag at 138th Avenue near Carson St., police said Monday, New York Daily News reports.
According to New York Daily News, Gilbert Legendre, 65 who is the homeowner discovered the corpse Saturday afternoon after he noticed a foul odor while cleaning the basement where his son lives. He lifted up a plywood board and found a large hole with the bag inside, police said.
“It’s Father’s Day. I’m just trying to see if I can wrap my head around this. My whole day is messed up,“ Gilbert Legendre told the Daily News Sunday when asked about his son’s possible involvement. He didn’t comment further.
Police sources said the son suffers from schizophrenia, according to New York Daily News. It’s suspected the remains belong to his former girlfriend, who also suffered from schizophrenia and disappeared more than four months ago, the sources said.
Police plans an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The identity of the victim is not yet known. The suspect is currently in hospital and no charges have been filed.
