A Republican Senator has reportedly suffered “serious” hand injury and may need amputation. Senator Kevin Cramer said there is a “possible need for amputation” following his injury, The Hill reports.
On Wednesday
Mr Cramer, a North Dakota Republican who revealed his medical news on twitter
said he got the injury while working in the yard over the weekend.
“While
working in the yard over the weekend, I sustained a serious injury to my right
hand, which required immediate surgery,” the 61-year-old lawmaker wrote, according
to The Hill.
“I continue
to remain in North Dakota close to medical care as there is high risk of
infection and the possible need for amputation,” he said.
Molly Block,
Cramer’s communication director clarified the amputation risk which involved
his boss’s fingers.
Mr Cramer
stated that the GOP senator will miss Senate votes and hearings this week and
will head back to Capitol Hill next month, according to The Hill.
The Senator
while narrating his ordeal said he remained “alert and in good spirits,” adding
that he didn’t appear to lose his sense of humor.
“I plan to
return to Washington, D.C. after the Independence Day state work period,” he
said, The Hill reported. , “and expect to be doling out a lot of left-handed
fist bumps.”
Speaking
during an interview on Wednesday with the Forum News Service, he said he was
getting ready to go swimming with his grandchildren when he attempted to move a
large rock that looked unstable near a beach area near his home. The rock
rolled unto his ring and pinkie fingers, the senator said, according to The
Hill.
