25 people die in devastating Kentucky floods

No fewer than 25 people have been confirmed dead in Kentucky following severe devastating flooding that ravaged several parts of the country particularly the east.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear described the flooding as the one of the most consequential kind that has hit the state, The Washington Times reports.

“We’re likely going to be finding bodies for weeks to come,” Mr. Beshear told NPR, according to Washington Times.

The governor lamented that flooding hit Kentuckians overnight which made several people to find themselves drifted away by water soon after they woke up.

A family reportedly lost four children as a result of the deadly flooding.

“We have whole towns that are underwater. Houses that were in line of the water are just gone, not a piece of the house left,” Mr. Beshear said, according to Washington Examiner. “We’ve lost 25 Kentuckians, each one a child of God that isn’t going to be there the next holiday.”

31,000 people in Kentucky are without electricity

Over 31,000 customers were left without electricity in eastern Kentucky, West Virginia and Virginia, The Associated Press cited a report by Poweroutage.us.

Water flowing from hillsides flooded out of streambeds, inundating homes, businesses and roads throughout eastern Kentucky.

Flash flooding and mudslides were reported across the mountainous region of eastern Kentucky, western Virginia and southern West Virginia.

Several residents rushed to their rooftops to escape the water.

More than 18,000 homes and businesses have had their electricity cut off as a result of the devastating flooding.
