Former President Donald Trump and his two children will no longer be questioned Friday in a New York civil investigation into their business dealings following the death of Trump’s ex-wife Ivana.
Trump, his
son Donald Jr. and daughter Ivanka were scheduled for depositions, a term for
out-of-court questioning under oath from Friday, The Associated Press reports.
New York
Attorney General Letitia James’s office said it postponed the meeting because
of Ivana Trump’s death, announced Thursday.
“We offer
our condolences to the Trump family,” attorney general’s office spokesperson
Delaney Kempner said in a statement, according to The Associated Press.
Ivana Trump
who died at her Manhattan home at the age of 73 was married to Donald Trump
from 1977 to 1992 and they had three children – Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric.
The
Associated Press reported that the medical examiner’s office said Friday that
it ruled Ivana Trump’s death and accident caused by blunt impact injuries to
the torso.
The police
were looking into whether Ivana had fallen down the stairs, two people familiar
with the matter told The Associated Press on Thursday.
James had
alleged that the ex-president’s company, the Trump Organisation, inflated the
values of skyscrapers, golf courses and other holdings in order to get loans,
insurance and other benefits, according to The Associated Press.
Trump
dismissed the allegations as a politically motivated “witch hunt”.
