A member of the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 2021 violent attack at the U.S, Capitol, Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) said on Sunday that new witnesses have come forward since Cassidy Hutchinson testified to the panel publicly last week.
“This
happens every day,” Kinzinger told CNN “State of the Union” co-anchor Dana Bash,
according to The Hill. “Every day we get new people that come forward and say,
‘Hey, I didn’t think maybe this piece of the story that I knew was important.'”
The committee
which had planned to pause its public hearings until later in July abruptly scheduled
last week’s hearing with Hutchinson. Hutchinson is a former Trump official who
served as an aide to White House chief of staff Mark Meadows.
According to
Hutchinson, former President Trump knew the crowd gathered for his rally on
January 6 was armed, and said he wanted the Secret Service to remove metal
detectors on the edge of the Ellipse to allow more people enter the security perimeter
and fill empty space.
She added
that Trump wanted to join the rally by his supporters to the Capitol and made
unsuccessful attempt to grab the steering wheel of his Secret Service vehicle.
The Hill
reported that members of the Secret Service who were in the car are prepared to
testify that they were not assaulted by Trump and that the former president did
not try to grab the steering wheel.
Kinzinger
noted on Sunday that Hutchinson’s testimony was credible and challenged anyone
who thinks otherwise to come forward and testify under oath.
“Cassidy
Hutchinson has testified under oath,” Kinzinger said, according to The Hill.
“We find her credible, and anybody that wants to cast disparagement on that
that was firsthand present should come and also testify under oath and not
through anonymous sources.”
