A 37-year-old woman who opened fire in Dallas airport was shot and wounded by police.
The incident took place inside of Dallas’ Love Field Airport on Monday when the suspect fired several gunshots at the ceiling, The Associated Press reports.
Dallas
police Chief Eddie Garcia said at a news conference that the woman dropped off
at the airport at about 11 a.m., walked inside the ticketing counters and
entered a bathroom, according to The Associated Press. When she emerged from
the bathroom, she had changed clothing, then pulled a gun and fired several
shots apparently at the ceiling.
“At this
point, we don’t know where exactly the individual was aiming,” Garcia said.
An officer
on duty shot the woman in her “lower extremities,” and she was taken into
custody, Garcia reportedly said.
“No other
individuals were injured in this event other than the suspect,” Garcia said, according
to The Associated Press.

The woman
was transported to hospital for treatment. Police identified the suspect as
Portia Odufuwa but her motives are not clear.
“We wanted
to ensure that our community knows that this is not an active situation,” the
chief said.
Love Field suspended
airport operations after the shooting but flights operations resumed at around
3:45 p.m. it is one of the Dallas-Fort Worth area’s two major airports.
