A gunman Thursday morning attempted to break into an FBI building in Cincinnati, Ohio which led to exchange of deadly fire with Ohio State Highway Patrol officers.

Authorities shut down Interstate I-71 North as the suspect fled the scene and started firing at police from a cornfield, NBC 15 News reported, according to Washington Examiner.

The situation began after the armed man arrived at the office and made potential threats, Washington Examiner quoted FBI officials at the Cincinnati field as confirming to WLWT.

Who is the armed suspect that attacked FBI bureau in Cincinnati?

The suspect was said to be white male over police scanner traffic, Washington Examiner quoted the News Journal.

“Blood splatter on his shorts. Right thigh area,” an officer in a police helicopter said over the radio, according to Washington Examiner. “Part of windshield shot out ... Suspect on knees, holding rifle.”

"Rifle down for the moment. He is on his knees,” the officer added about 15 minutes later.

Authorities imposed a lockdown for all buildings within a one-mile radius of the suspect’s current location as of late Thursday morning.

Is the attack on FBI linked to bureau's raid of Trump's Florida Mar-a-Lago home?

It’s not clear if the incident is linked to a raid by the FBI in a bid to carry out a search warrant on the Florida Mar-a-Lago home of former President Donald Trump on Monday.

FBI agents entered the Mar-a-Lago estate as part of an investigation into whether Mr. Trump took classified documents to his Florida residence, The Associated Press quoted people familiar with the matter.

In a lengthy statement, Trump said that agents had opened a safe at his home, describing their work as an “unannounced raid” that he likened to “prosecutorial misconduct,” according to The Associated Press.

Did Trump take away classified documents from the White House to Mar-a-Lago home?

A months-long probe has sought to establish how classified documents ended up in boxes of White House records located at Mar-a-Lago earlier this year.

About two dozen Trump supporters stood in protest at midmorning Tuesday in a bridge near Trump’s residence following the raid.

One held a sign reading “Democrats are Fascists” while others carried flags saying “2020 Was Rigged,” “Trump 2024″ and Biden’s name with an obscenity, according to The Associated Press.

Dark times for our country - Trump responds to FBI raid at Florida Mar-a-Lago home

Trump wrote Monday night, “These are dark times for our Nation, as my beautiful home, Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, is currently under siege, raided, and occupied by a large group of FBI agents,” Trump wrote, according to The Associated Press. “Nothing like this has ever happened to a President of the United States before.”

The Justice Department has been investigating the potential mishandling of classified information after the National Archives and Records Administration said it had received from Mar-a-Lago 15 boxes of White House records, including documents containing classified information, earlier this year, according to The Associated Press. The National Archives said Trump should have turned over that material upon leaving office and then asked the Justice Department to investigate.

Trump called the raid "a surprise attack, POLITICS, and all the while our Country is going to HELL!" in a post on his Truth Social account on Wednesday, according to Washington Examiner.

The FBI has since seen a series of online threats to the bureau following the Trump home raid but FBI Director Christopher Wray denounced the threats as "deplorable and dangerous."
