A New Orleans mom fatally stabbed her two young children Sunday, killing the daughter and fatally wounding the other in a custody battle.
The incident
happened at about 11 a.m. local time at a home in the Florida Area
neighborhood, Newsweek quoted the police. 31-year-old Janee Pedescleaux, stabbed
the two children – a 4-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy, killing the older
child and severely injuring the other, Newsweek reported.
The police
department told Newsweek on Monday that Pedescleaux is the mother of the two
children. She faces charges of second-degree murder, attempted second-degree
murder and second-degree cruelty to a juvenile, according to Newsweek.
New Orleans mom who killed her children was involved in custody battle with children's father
Pedescleaux
has been involved in custody battle with the father of the two children,
Jermaine Roberts, Newsweek cited court documents obtained by NOLA. Jermaine Roberts
reportedly sued Pedescleaux in April for joint custody, alleging that she
refused him seeing the children and was "not stable or providing a healthy
environment for the kids," WBRZ reported, according to Newsweek.
Pedescleaux
posted a video to her Instagram account, where she tearfully made remarks about
her children on a blood-stained tank top.
"I'm
dying," Pedescleaux reportedly said in the video, according to Newsweek.
"My children is dead. I'm dying. I'm done with life. It's all Jermaine's
fault."
According to
Newsweek, neighbors familiar with the situation told WVUE that the video
alarmed Roberts who arrived at the home in a white pickup and running inside.
He came out
with the two children but the other sibling appeared to be injured and fell
while attempting to run to the truck. Roberts later took the children to the
hospital while Pedescleaux was arrested at the scene.
The older
child died after being taken to a hospital but the boy is in critical
condition, Newsweek quoted WVUE.
