Ohio Republican Rep. Jim Jordan has warned President Joe Biden to prepare for the impeachment of his Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas who has supervised one of the most chaotic and unending influx of illegal migrants into the United States in American history, mostly from the southern border.
Speaking
with The Washington Times, the lawmaker said Mayorkas “deserves it” following Biden’s
broken “open border” policy.
Mr. Jordan
said the decision to remove Mayorkas will be made multilaterally should the GOP
take control of the House in the November midterms. He is currently in line to
become chairman of the House Judiciary Committee that has jurisdiction over
impeachment.
“Mayorkas deserves it,” Mr. Jordan said in an
interview with The Washington Times signaling his support for the idea. “He’s
told us how many times the border is secure, and you almost want to say, like,
‘What are you talking about?’ There’s not a rational person with an ounce of
common sense who thinks the border is secure. We don’t really have a border
anymore, and we’ve had a record number of millions of illegal migrants coming
across, so he certainly deserves it, but that’ll be a decision we make as a
committee and one that we make as a conference.”
The
Washington Times reported that several Republicans have unsuccessfully introduced
impeachment proceedings against President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala
Harris, Attorney General Merrick Garland and Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
The plans were all struck down by the Democrats who control the House.
Up to 30
Republicans have signaled support for Mayorkas’ impeachment resolution
sponsored by Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona, according to The Washington Times.
“I don’t
know, but I do think there is strong sentiment among House Republicans,
particularly House Republicans on the Judiciary Committee, that Mayorkas has
done an absolutely terrible job,” Jordan said while responding to a question on
whether Republicans have enough votes to impeach the Homeland Security
Secretary, according to The Washington Times.
The House
needs a simple majority to impeach Mayorkas which would be followed by a trial
by the Senate which requires a two-thirds majority for conviction and removal
from office.
Mr. Biggs
who outlined the reason for the impeachment of Mayorkas more than a year ago
said the case against Mayorkas showed “a pattern of conduct that is
incompatible with his duties.”
Some of the
allegations against Mayorkas include halting the construction of the border
wall while overseeing the catch-and-release of unprecedented numbers of illegal
immigrants and a rise in the trafficking of illegal drugs such as fentanyl, according
to The Washington Times.
Mr. Jordan
accused Mayorkas of “failure to enforce the law and secure the border in a
general sense,” noting that the number of terrorism suspects trying to illegally
enter the US surged from October 1 through August 30 when Border Patrol agents
caught 78 persons who appear on the government’s terrorist watchlist.
Mr. Jordan
sought to know the status of the terrorist suspects earlier this year following
the notoriously lax immigration policy of the Biden administration.
