Former President Donald Trump declared Saturday, his 2024 White House bid, saying “I have to do it again”. The former President made the announcement at a rally in Robstown, Texas where he campaigned for Republicans in the state some of whom he endorsed for the November midterms.
“I ran
twice. I won twice,” he said, according to The Associated Press. “I did much
better the second time than I did before,” Mr. Trump insisted he won the 2020
White House race where he was defeated by President Joe Biden.
Advancing
his baseless claims of widespread voter fraud, Mr. Trump said he got “millions
more votes in 2020 than 2016” and “more votes than any sitting president in the
history of our country by far.”
“And now, in
order to make our country successful, safe and glorious again, I will probably
have to do it again,” the former president added.
Mr. Trump is
yet to make a formal announcement for the 2024 presidential election as that
would trigger Federal Election Commission requirements which involve disclosing
financial information. That would also impose limits on how much he could raise
from individual donors before November 2024, according to The Associated Press.
Trump is
leading President Joe Biden by 1 point in a New York Times poll among potential
voters. Mr. Trump leads Biden, 45 to 44 percent, when registered voters were
asked who they would support if the 2024 presidential election were held today,
according to a New York Times College poll published last Monday.
Biden also
leads Trump in a number of other polls including a Yahoo News-YouGov poll last
month that had Biden leading Trump by 6 point, according to The Hill.
Trump is
also leading President Joe Biden in a Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll survey released
Monday with 2-points in a hypothetical 2024 rematch. Forty-five percent of
voter said they would support Mr. Trump for a second term in 2024 while 43
percent said they would back Mr. Biden.
