Singer and rapper Aaron Carter was Saturday found dead at his California home. He is the younger brother of Nick Carter of Backstreet Boys. Carter recorded a number of hits such as “Aaron’s Party (Come Get it)” and “I Want Candy.”
Deputies
were called in around 11 a.m. after receiving reports of a medical emergency at
the home in Lancaster, Deputy Alejandra Parra of the LA County Sheriff’s
Department said, The Associated Press reported.
When they
arrived, Parra said they found a dead body at the residence. Authorities said a
babysitter found a man in the bathtub in the home but all efforts to
resuscitate him failed.
It is not
clear if the deceased fell down in the bathtub. Carter started having hits in
his teens and in 1997 he opened for the Backstreet Boys tour and also released
his gold-selling debut the same year.
His 2000’s
Aaron’s Party (Come Get It) sophomore album helped the singer reach
triple-platinum status. He had hit singles such as “I Want Candy.”
In 2006 he
appeared alongside his brother, Nick and their siblings B.I., Leslie and Angel
Carter on the E! unscripted series “House of Carters,” according to The
Associated Press.
He was
involved in substance abuse at some point in his career.
Carter appeared on the ABC competition show “Dancing with the Stars,” and finished in fifth place with partner Karina Smirnoff and later appeared on the Food Network cooking show “Rachel vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off,” according to The Associated Press.
