Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis won reelection Tuesday for a second term defeating his Democratic challenger, Charlie Crist.
The defeated
Democrat, Crist was governor of Florida from 2007-2011 and also represented the
state’s 13th District in Congress.
Republicans
now outnumber Democrats in terms of voting strength by approximately 300,000
voters, according to The Washington Times.
DeSantis who
has become increasing popular over the years was projected to win the race by
about 57.4 percentage points as against the 41.9 percentage points for Crist
with 68% of votes counted in the state.
In September
DeSantis sent planeloads of illegal migrants to the wealthy Martha’s Vineyard,
a day later Texas Gov. Greg Abbott sent busloads of migrants to Vice President
Kamala Harris’s home in Washington, D.C.
White House
Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre described the transportation of migrants in
September as “a cruel political game, a cruel political stunt with migrants and
families and children who are fleeing communism?"
Florida like
many GOP states resisted COVID-19 lockdowns and mandate under DeSantis. He is a
top contender for the 2024 White House race and was nicknamed “Ron
De-Sanctimonius” by former President Donald Trump who is set to announce
formally his candidacy on November 15 in his Palm Beach Florida home.
Mr. Trump’s endorsement helped DeSantis win his first term in office. He reportedly voted for DeSantis in Tuesday’s midterm elections.
