Republican Sen. Marco Rubio easily won reelection in Tuesday’s midterms for the Senate race in Florida, defeating his Democratic challenger Val Demings for a third term. Both CNN and Fox News projected Rubio as the winner of the poll.
The Republicans
are on the verge of taking over the Senate and are already having a clear lead
in the House.
Rubio’s
victory is coming at a time the GOP is rebounding as Democratic President Joe
Biden presides over an economy in limbo, rising inflation, the surge in illegal
immigration due to lack of Democratic leadership and potential recession as a
result of persistent hikes in interest rates by the Federal Reserve.
This is
impacting negatively on the cost of doing business in the country and slightly
raises borrowing cost, another disincentive for business owners.
The U.S. has
been struggling under Biden who could not provide enough deterrence to prevent
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Now Americans
are grappling with the increasing cost of the war on tax payers.
Republicans
may begin impeachment proceedings against Mr. Biden on a number of these topics
including his chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan which lead to the deaths of
hundreds of Afghans and several dozen American servicemen, after a bomb attack
at the airport where evacuations were coordinated.
One of those
Republicans that may be pushing for Biden’s impeachment is Rep. Marjorie Taylor
Greene who said a day before the midterms that the impeachment of the president
“will be very easy”. She has since won reelection in the House.
Demings, a former
Orlando police chief struggled to defend herself against allegations she was
not showing the necessary support to law enforcement.
Rubio won a
seat in the U.S. Senate for the first time in 2010.
