A man who opened fire at a family reunion on Saturday night was later shot down by police at the scene.

The incident took place at Maicach Park located in the Chicago suburb of South Holland, Illinois, after the shooter allegedly got into a spat with two women.

The suspect argued with his current girlfriend and an ex-girlfriend at the gathering which had about 50 people in attendance.  He left the party after the disagreement but returned later and continued the dispute with his ex and began to open fire at someone, Newsweek reports.

The Man fired off at least 10 shots “rapid,” Andriana Foster, who was at the park with her children when the shooting started, told the Sun-Times, according to Newsweek.

"By the time I heard [the gunshots] I was near the field and I started running," she explained. "I was running toward my kids to try to get them to safety."

An off-duty police officer who attended the party opened fire at the shooter and brought him down.

He died later in hospitals from his wounds. He was the only person injured at the scene.

Chicago is one of the most violent U.S. cities with about 304 homicides as of June this year,  compared to the 336 recorded in the sam period last year which represents a 10 percent drop, Newsweek cited a reported by the Chicago Tribune.
