A man who opened fire at a family reunion on Saturday night was later shot down by police at the scene.
The incident took place at Maicach Park located in the Chicago suburb of South Holland, Illinois, after the shooter allegedly got into a spat with two women.
The suspect
argued with his current girlfriend and an ex-girlfriend at the gathering which
had about 50 people in attendance. He
left the party after the disagreement but returned later and continued the
dispute with his ex and began to open fire at someone, Newsweek reports.
The Man fired
off at least 10 shots “rapid,” Andriana Foster, who was at the park with her
children when the shooting started, told the Sun-Times, according to Newsweek.
"By the
time I heard [the gunshots] I was near the field and I started running,"
she explained. "I was running toward my kids to try to get them to
safety."
An off-duty police officer who attended the party opened fire at the shooter and brought him down.
He died later in hospitals from his wounds. He was the only person
injured at the scene.
Chicago is
one of the most violent U.S. cities with about 304 homicides as of June this year,
compared to the 336 recorded in the sam period
last year which represents a 10 percent drop, Newsweek cited a reported by the
Chicago Tribune.
